Learning can be fun!
Studies show students who
frequently read on their own, read faster and comprehend
more than the students who read only what they have to
for school. Encourage your student to find a book series
they enjoy and set aside time each day to nurture that
skill. Reading can be one of the most enjoyable
activities a person can participate in.
Writing is also another fun
activity your student can do to get thoughts flowing
quickly. At first have your students write daily for
only 5 minutes. Have them write anything that comes to
their mind, but not to stop for any reason. After a few
weeks, you’ll see changes in their thought and writing
fluency. This skill will help in any standardized
testing and eventually on the essay portion of the SAT. Keep a journal! Encourage
your student to keep a writing log where they can log
current thoughts and write about special activities or
people in their lives. Journals can be very special for
years to come.
Take the time to see the
importance of these special moments in your child’s
development!
